Tinsel and Tunes: A Family Holiday Celebration, presented by the De Lanerolle Brothers in collaboration with the National Unity Orchestra, was a heartwarming Christmas event held at the Lionel Wendt on December 7. The two shows, from 6-7.15 p.m. and 8.30 p.m – 9.45 p.m., offered a festive escape into the enchanting world of Christmas music.
The concert featured some of Colombo’s leading choirs, including the PPA choir of Bishop’s College, Choro Benedicte, Metho Cantanti (OGA Choir of Methodist College), and OKTAVE with Neranjan De Silva at the organ. The National Unity Orchestra, conducted by Srimal Weerasinghe, added a symphonic touch to the festivities.
Ishan emphasized the unamplified performance, allowing the audience to experience the pure voices and orchestral sounds at their best. The De Lanerolle Brothers treated the audience to soul-stirring renditions of classics like 'O Holy Night' and 'Felice Navidad.' Well-loved carols such as 'Joy to the World' and 'Hark the Herald' provided an opportunity for the audience to join in the festive spirit.
Amidst the familiar tunes, Ishan promised delightful and unique arrangements, enhancing the magical atmosphere of the season. To further evoke the Christmassy feeling, a suggested dress code of festive attire with a sprinkle of red added a charming touch to this special holiday celebration.
